To the Bay and Back
Do you have the urge to take a break from the beach or the hustle and bustle of your daily routine? Why not board a Cape Water Tours and Taxi vessel at Fisherman’s Wharf in Lewes and take a relaxing ride to the Rehoboth Bay and back on our To The Bay and Back Cruise?
Completed in 1927, the canal, which is about 10 miles long, connects the Delaware and Rehoboth Bays. As stated on the sign posted by the bridge over the Canal in Rehoboth, the Canal was initially a means of access to the sea for farmers and saw mills along the Indian River and the Bay. Today, it is used by commercial and pleasure boats and provides access to the Delaware Bay, the Rehoboth Bay, and Indian River Inlet. This tour is not narrated however, the crew will be happy to answer any questions you have about the canal.
Your trip will be a relaxing, comfortable, breezy ride along the Canal where you will see our local communities, migrating birds and waterfowl, plants and trees indigenous to our waterways and will learn a little about a current project to improve the appearance and functionality of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal in order to better serve residents and visitors of the Cape region of Delaware.
You are welcome to bring food and beverages with you. Alcohol is allowed. The trip will last 2 relaxing hours.
