Perseid Meteor Shower Cruise
Cape Water Taxi and Tours presents the Perseid Meteor Shower Cruise on Friday, August 12, departing at 4:00 am.
The shower should be at its best before dawn on August 12. Best times to watch: after midnight and before dawn. On a dark, moonless night, you can often see 50-100 Perseid meteors per hour. Although the moon will light up the evening hours, it will set way before the predawn hours, at which time the Perseid meteors fly most abundantly.
The Perseids have more fireballs, or bright meteors, than any other major shower, according to NASA’s Meteoroid Office. What a beautiful sight it will be, to see meteors streaking along in a moon-free sky, in front of the age-old constellations.
At 4:00 am on Friday, August 12th , Cape Water Tours and Taxi will take you to a dark, open sky far away from the harsh glare of city lights, out into the Delaware Bay to enjoy the show. We will depart from our dock at Lewes’ Fisherman’s Wharf . The expected return time is 6:00 am. Cost per person is $22.
